See you there!
The Kids are set to conquer the App Store with the release of Kid Krusader for iPhone and iPod Touch. Destruction, kids in costumes, fire power and griffins. This isn’t your average tower defense game!
SYDNEY- February 15, 2011-Omni Arts today announced the availability of Kid Krusader in the iTunes App Store. Previously the popular tower defense game was released for Flash and quickly became viral. In response to positive review, Kid Krusader has extended its audience to the ever-growing iPod Touch and iPhone fan base.
With 6 unique levels continually increasing in difficulty, Kid Krusader is full of engaging cartoon style maps and characters with crisp visuals and strategic game-play that will challenge not only a player’s intellect, but also test out finger agility. ‘Kampaign’ and ‘Free Play’ modes are included so advanced players can test their wits in a round-based structured game, or choose Free Play and test out endurance by defeating as many enemies as possible.
“We really wanted Kid Krusader to be a game of intuition and spontaneous decision making,” said James Booth, founder of Omni Arts, “That’s what tower defense games are all about. We think this is the kind of hybrid game that combines specific tower defense elements for genre fans, but also with everything casual gamers expect.”
While Kid Krusader may appear to be a children’s game stylistically, the in-depth strategy elements and fast paced nature of the game is designed to keep strategists of all ages coming back for more.
Kid Krusader is available at the price of $0.99 USD.

Forget playtime, these kids aren’t interested in
lego…
Ever imagined what it would be like if your pint sized brother and all of his little pesky gang were to overthrow the pinnacle of grown up civilization? Well I admit I hadn’t (as I’m a younger sister of a duo), but still-there’s a reason why stories like Children of the Corn and any other fantastic Stephen King tales was written: We don’t know what kids are truely capable of. Destruction? Evil? Befriending griffins?
So enough patronage to King, I’m talking about our FIRST EVER game release for iPod touch and iPhone-KID KRUSADER!
I posted about Kid Krusader a while back, and wasnt sure of the date of release due to submission times, but we are proud to say that today the 15th Feb 2011 that Omni-Arts is now in business with iTunes! You can check out the game here;
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kid-krusader/id411299472?mt=8&ls=1#
In short, Kid Krusader is a tower defence game with toon art, so it’s that bright-fun style of art you expect to see in those little phone screens! Oh, I forgot to mention this little gem will only set you back $0.99 USD, so really there’s nothing for you to lose.
So some closing words…
GET PLAYING!
Thought I’d share some inspiring pics from the latest levels freshly designed for Apalia HD. These are the lands of Elpala, where the player will play ‘capture-the-flag’ and obviously the death match in the arena.
Like what you see?
And of course…the Arena. What’s become of it? Check it out below:
So hopefully these shots liven your interest and if they do-go to our forums at http://www.omni-arts.com/forums/ and sign up! Easy.
Also while I’m here, I’ve got a little update which really isn’t that little-it’s quite HUGE! More additions to the game! There’s going to be more narrative, which will mean cut scenes between levels and a final animated climatic scene which brings the whole story and game as one!
Once I have some of the characters modeled out I’ll post them so you can see what I mean. But for now, I have a rough concept drawing of ‘First-Son’; the son of Apalia. 10 000 years ago he summoned all the demons across the lands, but he was stopped and turned to stone…Now Efuru, the mountain ghost wants him back-and she means Ariana to be the one to do it!
Sounds exciting, then keep checking here for updates!
As a rule I tend to stay away from forums; people really are the limit! So I can’t say I was looking forward to the task of looking up ‘Kid Krusader’(our flash game) amongst the sharp, free-flowing discussions of the game!
Everyone’s susceptible to public opinion at one time or another, but forums-I swear they are like Sydney without law enforcement! I can’t say I’d relish the experience of meeting my anti-comrades in the flesh be very awkward for them if they turned out to be a pussy cat
Actually, I do have a forum story in mind. We’ve all been passive aggressively abused at some point with opulent wit right? Or been sent those smiley faces with the one eyebrow raised and how belligerent is the smiley face who sips coffee?!
Anyway, the story- I was looking for PC beta testers for Apalia HD and I guess I must have posted on a different countries forum(won’t say which)-no biggie, everyone’s the same right? Wrong- Firstly, I’m a woman, which means I’m a scam and secondly, I’m not in the right country so why was I posting off my own turf? I calmly explained the internet was made to account for such bridges, but I was still a suspicious character none the less. So long story short, now I stay away from forums! I think perhaps there’s too much testosterone floating around. (Sorry if I’m making a stereotype-but they were all men!) I wonder if anyone could comment on here and sympathize with me?
So my point at the start of this blog was that I was looking up comments for a game Omni-Arts released in November of 2010- it was sponsored by Game Pirate and subsequently went viral due to unscrupulous free game sites-but hey- we weren’t complaining-spread the seed as you will.
In the way of comments I found some great ones, so thanks. I also found not so not so positive ones, yet at least some were constructive(which is good as I’ve relayed them to James to fix them for the iphone/ipod touch release)- so thanks! But banging smiley heads against the wall(damn those smiles)…
‘Excuse me sir, but why are you banging your head against the wall- if a free flash game makes you that angry- than perhaps…I hear Dr Phill has an opening…’ For all this, I do appreciate comments. I remember the line used in so many people by people that have no idea-eg Jason Stackhouse ‘Tell people the truth, they’ll never be the same.’ :)
So I guess you’ve got some hazy idea in your mind about where I’m going, but I’ll state it simply this time: Kid Kruader- a free flash tower defense game created by Omni-Arts; sponspored and released last year by Game Pirate, is in the current stage of being prepped for iphone/ ipod touch.
Today, I’ve been checking out what the audience thinks and I guess there’s a few things that need to be changed before release. We’re on it. An actual release date isn’t agreed upon yet, but sometime this February and we mean it to be big!
Show your support for small and idealistic game development companies that provide so much of the relief from internet boredom and check out Kid Krusader(the flash version) at:
http://www.gamepirate.com/game/kid-krusader.html
And if you feel the need to comment on it-give it to us straight! Thanks
Some Kid Krusader Screen Shots:

What would we do without our beta testers! Thanks for the comments so far and the reference to Spartacus on TV-you guys are great
If anyone is actually reading this post and is interested in becoming a beta tester-since we are up to 3.0 with a few more to go than register at:
http://www.omni-arts.com/forums/ and send me an email and you can get testing right away!
So that’s the announcement, but what of Apalia HD’s progress?
For starters, there’s a tutorial(nearly completed) so you get to train up for the mighty arena I actually think this is a lot of fun and it’s great to not just read instructions but learn at the same time. I don’t know if you’re like me, but with most games I go gung-ho and press play before reading anything, hoping I’ll figure it out on the way. Needless to say, I’m not as smart or practical as I thought and I die prematurely!
Also, the animated effects such as fire swipes, spinning green things, a nice block shield, awesome combo finishers and teleportation effects have all improved the game into sweetness!
A note besides the beta- James has completed the other 5 levels for outside the arena with blood flowers, dead trees, overwhelming amounts of colourful trees and shrubs; basically everything you want in a terrain.
Until next time,
Hope to you in the beta!
Place the nail… hit the nail…
Shift the lumber
Place the nail… hit the nail…
The Baren have been building the Arena for some time, many put to death due to their own insolence or misplaced loyalties. The Baren don’t question the whim of their masters now-all they know is that bloodshed is not long now… soon…
The village wives and whores are growing restless, where have all the men gone? What new monstrosity was arising beyond the red horizon?
Be-known to only to the Master’s closest advisors was to be the Arena’s first victim. A young woman, whose blood would christen the sand crimson.
Ariana is waiting…
The new year is upon us!
You know what that means right- resolutions! Mine’s still in the making which means I probaby won’t know till next year what I really wanted. Anyway, I’ve had my fix of fireworks and festivities excesses so now I’m back in business.
If you read a few posts before, you’d notice Apalia HD was to be released Christmas 2010-where is it you say? Status-beta testing.
That’s okay though, gives us plenty more time to add cool effects and bam’s and pow’s. So a recap of were we’re up to…..
Beta test 2 has been released in our forums and so far, no one’s been down on the project. This new beta so far has 2 of the 4 enemies and no sound as of yet, BUT we’ve got some great special attacks-like earthquake, special combos and teleport slash!
Also-from the man himself- I’ve been told to tell you guys a little more technical jargon-
Some collision priority has been added as well as a new react system. The instructions now work in-game, and Game over now happens, returning you to the main menu if your HP reaches 0. The special attacks now have a bar above the buttons, and the buttons glow red when you can press them for the special. Spin and omnislash also deal more damage among several other changes!
We’re thinking the other 6 levels outside the arena will be in the next beta, or beta 4-that’s what I’m looking forward too!
So now enough prattling- you’d like to see some screen shots- am I right?
*A little note- when the characters show up red, it’s purely for testing purposes.
Hope you liked the sneak peak and I almost forgot to mention- if you want to start testing the game, send an email to beta@omni-arts.com and I’ll reply personally!
Happy gaming and aspiration!
Sam
Our programmer is on the job. Everything has been sent his way and as I speak he’s making magic with codes for Apalia HD! The demo should be very, very soon. Already we put out a call for some beta-testers and got a whirlwind of reply’s for our efforts. It seems maybe people to do like casual action games after all! Although, a point of interest- no females applied for beta testing- why? Do you girls not like action games, or is the bikini clad heroine that isn’t to your liking? It’s interesting that.
So beta testing should be happening this weekend- we even received a reply from a government library-talk about a wide audience! Oh and should have mentioned this before- Omni-Arts is finally on twitter and we’re having lots of fun on it too! Seems we even got listed *exciting* -> http://twitter.com/Omniarts
As for the motion comic I talked about in the last post- it’s a lot of work. James has redrafted the monologue, and is now using it to create each page- I think there’s 24 pages that he creates in Aftereffects and that’s not to say all of the rendering of the characters on different angles! I’ve seen the first few pages- I think you’ll like them. Actually, all beta testers get a free copy, so drop a line if you want to test on other devices, such as pc and iphone.
Oh and before I go I thought seeing this a development diary and all- I should put some notes that have been used to guide the motion comic-basically a set of rules:
Make sure they vary, eg a side-on, front on and maybe an above shot. Keep this mindset for all shots, as I can fix the landscapes according to the characters position afterwards, it’s the characters that come first. Also make sure the characters are always in frame for the camera, because if the characters sliding across the screen in the motion version without a right foot, it could look odd. If you need to take several shots of eg. Tribesman that would be intended for the same frame, make sure the camera proportion is the same.
Wise words from James. Until the next time!
So I sat down and watched the Spider Woman motion comic last night for some inspiration. I really didn’t even know there was a spiderwoman but it looked smicko all the same.
Omni-Arts is in the throws of making an Apalia HD motion comic, with lots of blood, scary monsters and that sweet slo-mo thing they do
. Omni-arts has had this motion comic idea in their head for ages and I’m actually getting a Uni friend(she goes to NIDA
) to voice the monologue as my voice isn’t oldworld enough sounding!
So the monologue is written-in a draft form and I don’t have permission to put it up here yet- but I’ll grab some snatches for you when its finiallized. Although, I do know that the monologue will be in the voice of Ariana the Raan(the tribal woman) who was enslaved by the Gladiator’s Arena in the lands of Apalia many years ago…she’s angry, cold and hungry for vengence! You gotta love a tough chick right?
Again, a little look at our characters. I do like this pic!
